Starting January 1, 2025, Australia has implemented a new education policy that restricts the total new international student enrollments each year to a cap of 270,000. From this total, 145,000 are declared for university-level education, with the remaining portion divided among the TAFE and VET sectors.

This policy, termed the National Planning Level, addresses issues of population growth, housing, and the honor of the student visa system. Genuine Student (GS) Requirement & Documentation

Starting March 23, 2024, Australia replaced the well-known GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) requirement with the stronger GS requirement, signaling another sharp shift in the assessment of student visas. Unlike the GTE, which required a detailed SOP, the GS requirement requires a bunch of targeted questions designed to uncover an applicant's genuine motivations regarding their academic choices, course selection, and future plans after studying.

This is to filter out applicants who do not intend to study and are only looking for a way to enter Australia. The GS criteria has increased the standards for the documentation that must be provided. Every response to the GS questions must be supported by the relevant documentation, which indicates that applicants cannot make unclear or general claims. This systematic and detailed strategy boosts the reliability of effective applications.

So, meeting the eligibility requirements will still make studying in Australia a valuable opportunity, but the rules established for 2025 will require more precise planning and create a much more competitive environment than before.
